ROC'D

Rapid Online Course Development

Welcome to ROC'D Module

This module was developed to help higher education faculty learn how to build an online course that is effective. After conducting a needs analysis, the ROC'D team split up to develop separate instructional modules that take the learner through the different steps of building an online course using a Learning Management System (LMS). For this portion of the ROC'D Module, the designers used Blackboard Vista.

In this module, the learner will be walked through the procedural steps of generating strategies for their students to utilize within an online course that help those students manage time. After conducting interviews, the designers focused on three different ways that learners can help students manage time within an online course. The following are the three strategies covered in this instructional module:

▫Create an Assignment using a LMS
▫Create an Assessment using a LMS
▫Create an Electronic Calendar using a LMS

Goal of the ROC'D Module

The main goal of this instructional module is to help higher education faculty with developing an online course. For this particular module, at the end the learners will be able to generate strategies for students to utilize within an online course that will help students manage time.

Main Objective of the ROC'D Module

At the end of this instructional module, given a learning management system account (LMS) and the task of generating management strategies the learner will generate an assignment, an assessment, and an electronic calendar in order to help students manage time in an online course.

Instructional Videos

Instructional videos were made in Adobe Captivate to demonstrate the procedural tasks of creating an assignment, an assessment, and an electronic calendar using a LMS. There are five videos used in this instructional module to help guide the learner. Each video covers one of the three strategies. To get to the instructional videos you must click on Module in the Navigation Bar at the top of this page.

Assessment Items

Each video has assessment items that accompany the video to help assess whether or not the learner has mastered the goals of this module. The assessment items are found in the assessment book. The Assessment book is broken down into five sections and each section can be found in the table of contents. Before beginning each video, the learner will be asked to turn to a specific page in the assessment book before starting the video. Also, this module requires the learner to interact with a computer demonstration as well as complete tasks and questions that are found in the assessment book. The assessment book and the assessment book answers can be found on the Printed Materials page. You can access this page from the Navigation Bar at the top of this page.
